Im so sorry I didn’t get these all up within the same week as I usually like to do, but it has been a whirlwind over here at the Gardner house with House Planning, our businesses, girls being sick, and all the other surprises life throws at you. Enough with the excuses already! Todays update is all about our sweet and spunky Indie!
Indie is the oldest of the quads, but also the smallest. Don’t let her small stature fool you though. This girl is one tough cookie! Not only was she at the bottom of the womb holding all the other girls in, and also one of our twins that had to fight through TTTS, she has proven as of late to be the most outspoken and toughest of the girls!
Indie has always been a little more independent from the group. Where you’ll see 3 of them mingling and playing, often Indie will be off by herself exploring things on a more quiet and personal level. From the beginning, she really never loved being in the crowd. She’s always loved just a little bit of space to herself. As I’ve watched her over the years, I notice that even though she’s off by herself, she’s still aware and engaged. She’s constantly watching her sisters, and if she feels the need or want, she’ll get up and join the group. Its as if she’s not going to be bother with things she’s not interested in. LOL.
Indie to date has been our sweetest child, but I think that characteristic is evolving. Although still very much sweet, she has added the elements of spunky and dominant. Lately she has been very outspoken with her sisters, even calling the shots. She’ll get a toy, and if another comes near, give them a shout in the face letting them know who had it first.
Indie is always willing to smile for the camera!
She’s also taken this to the next level, unfortunately. She’s become our resident biter. Although Esme was the first to bite, and figure out what a powerful tool that was to use with her bigger sisters, Indie has explored all options regarding this tactic. She definitely uses it to ward off the older sister when needed, but often will just bite just to bite. This is so hard on Ashley and I as we have absolutely no warning such as a scuffle or yells before the bite takes place. On the flip side, im glad to report that she has been reacting well to time-outs, and seems to be comprehending that biting actually causes “hurt” to her sisters.
Indie loves, loves, loves her mama! Out of all the girls, she is definitely a mamas girl! I think being so delicate and dainty, she just enjoys the softer touch that Ashley supplies. Where I am loud and more physical with my love, Ashley is soft and warm. You can really see Indie relate to this type of love just by physically watching the situation.
Indie has quite a bond with her sister Esme. I think I could honestly write a book on the bond these two share with one another, but all signs point to the trials they’ve had to overcome as a team, specifically TTTS. Knowing how dangerous this trial was, I can only sit back in amazement as I watch these two incredibly tiny humans beings who overcame so many odds against them, and not only survive, but flourish. God’s handprints are all over these tiny miracles, and we feel so blessed we get to witness their miracle grow every day!
Indie loves both her Mimi and her Grandma! I think this goes directly back to the soft and calm atmosphere these women bring with them. They are lovely, compassionate, caring people, and it exudes from their countenance. It is contagious and appealing to our little Indie.
Indie has become our best eater! She loves all things meat! She’ll eat anything from chicken and ribs to filet mignon! She has quite an eclectic taste in food, and has really opened her options up these last few months. We’ve been so happy to see this as she is our smallest and you tend to worry about your smallest. Some of her favorite foods include cold cereal, sweet peas, corn on the cob, ribs, and any and all fruit!
Indie’s favorite toys are her puzzles. She loves putting all the pieces back together. She also loves naming all the pieces as she puts them back in to the puzzle. This ranges from colors, shapes, animals, and cars or trucks.
Indie loves all things Pink. This is the color we associated with her early on, and she’s grown to love it. If you give her a choice, she usually always picks pink!
Indie is very smart for her age group. She was one of our first to start talking, and has really never missed a beat since. She says so many words I’ve lost track of count. One of the main reasons she’s picked up so well is that she’s like a talking parrot. She will repeat almost anything you say. As I’ve observed her doing this, I’ve noticed that it is purely educational for her. She’s repeating the words back to the adult while at the same time looking for confirmation that she said it right and understands. Blows me away what these tine children can comprehend.
The Naughty- Besides biting, Indie has recently found it amusing to tease her sisters. This includes holding on to a piece of their clothing to bother them, sticking her feet on them in the car, and unfortunately pulling hair. Although these behaviors are evident, I’m happy to report they are minimal, and hopefully fading!
The Nice- Indie is really great at sharing with her sisters. If she sees one of them wants something and she has it, she is usually one of the first to offer what she has. I love this so much about her!
Indie loves the outdoors, but im beginning to wonder what child doesn’t! She’s really developed a love for the slide and swing set. Where once she was the timid one who would not go down the slide alone, she is now the first one up and down. She also has graduated from the baby swing, and now likes to sit on the big girl swing by herself! She also loves going on walks with the family, and just like her twin, collecting pine cones and leaves!
Indie loves her country!
Indie loves her baby dolls. She already has such a caring nature about her. Its so funny, she’ll start talking to them in her own language and then gently kiss their face and hug them tight! Oh it makes my heart so happy!
Indie is definitely one of the cool kids!
Indie has two favorite uncles, Oakland and Garrison. Anybody who spends any time with our family knows this because she is constantly saying both of their names, and loves snuggling with them when they are around!
Indie is probably the most well behaved in church. She’ll just sit on the pew and read a book or work on a puzzle! She never puts up much of a fuss. She’ll even sing along with the music on some days!
Indie, along with all her sisters, love helping with the family businesses; but her favorite is loading up packages with dad!
Indie has such a sweet and contagious spirit, you cant help but be calm and peaceful around her.
Indie has so many wonderful qualities, it is so hard to put them all down in one blog. That is why I love to do these every few months because I feel like I couldn’t possibly touch on all of them at one time. I hope you’ve enjoyed this small view into our Indie from her dad’s perspective! I’ve listed the other girls recent updates below, and plan on having Scarlett’s done this week as well! Hope you all have an amazing day!
